Shock video: A Toulouse man burned by the explosion of his electronic cigarette

02 November 2016 / Jerome Goulon

The battery of a Toulouse resident's electronic cigarette exploded in the pocket of the jacket he was wearing, causing second-degree burns.

Last Friday shortly after midnight, when his establishment had just opened its doors, Amine Britel is vaping on the sidewalk with several security guards when sparks start to fly from his jacket pocket. As shown in the video surveillance images of the establishment and broadcast on the site La Depeche du Midi, very quickly, the synthetic material clothing catches fire.

Unable to take off his jacket, the manager takes the battery from his pocket and throws it on the sidewalk. It is the security guards who will help put out the fire on the garment. Aine Britel was treated by the Toulouse firefighters before being hospitalized in Rangueil in the specialized department of the University Hospital for second and third degree burns on the stomach, back and fingers.
