Comedian Pierre Palmade will be brought before the criminal court to answer charges of “unintentional injuries” following a road accident that occurred on February 10, 2023 in Villiers-en-Bière, in Seine-et-Marne.

That day, Pierre Palmade was at the wheel of a car which collided with a vehicle coming in the opposite direction, on a secondary road. The accident resulted in serious injuries to three people: a man, his son and his sister-in-law, who unfortunately lost the baby she was expecting following the collision. A medical assessment revealed that the baby carried by the pregnant passenger, and for whom a cesarean section was performed after the accident, had died before birth and could therefore not legally be considered a human person. The experts also concluded that if the accident had not happened, the child would have been born alive. According to a source close to the case, the baby's death was directly caused by the accident, even though the Melun public prosecutor's office had initially requested a trial for "involuntary manslaughter".

The investigating judge therefore resolved this legal question by dismissing Pierre Palmade for “unintentional injuries by a driver who deliberately violated a particular obligation of caution or safety”, in particular due to drug consumption. Having suffered from drug addiction problems for many years, Pierre Palmade had used drugs for three days without sleeping, before getting behind the wheel with two passengers to go shopping. Due to these facts, and being judged to be a repeat offender, Pierre Palmade risks a sentence of 14 years in prison and a fine of 200 euros.
