Opening of an investigation into death threats against LFI deputy Sébastien Delogu

Bouches-du-Rhône MP Sébastien Delogu, member of La France Insoumise (LFI), announced that he had filed two complaints following death threats, defamation and insults received. In response, the Marseille prosecutor's office opened an investigation for "threats of crime or misdemeanor against an elected official", confirmed prosecutor Nicolas Bessone on Wednesday August 7, 2024.

Complaints filed for threats and defamation

Sébastien Delogu informed via his X account (formerly Twitter) that he had filed a complaint for the second time this Tuesday, August 6. “Your death threats, defamation, insults are in the hands of justice! ", did he declare. The MP also shared on Instagram the numerous threats he regularly receives.

Ongoing investigation

According to a police source cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP), a first complaint was filed on Tuesday for “threatening comments made against him via messages on his Instagram account” and “malicious calls and thousands of threats for more than five months. Part of these threats would be linked to the MP's positions on the conflict in Gaza.

Sébastien Delogu had already attracted attention last May by brandishing a Palestinian flag within the National Assembly. This gesture, as well as his comments on the conflict in Gaza, contributed to attracting threats and smears against him.
