Olivier Véran withdraws from the legislative race in Isère and bets on Camille Galliard-Minier
Olivier Véran, former Minister of Health and figure in Emmanuel Macron's governments, has announced that he will not participate in the legislative by-election in the first constituency of Isère, scheduled following the resignation of former rebellious MP Hugo Prévost, accused of sexist and sexual violence. After a defeat in July against Prévost, Véran expressed his wish to "serve the country differently", saying that he had "never considered politics as a career". This withdrawal marks a pause in his political commitment, although Véran assures that it does not mean a definitive farewell.
Instead, Camille Galliard-Minier will represent Ensemble pour la République (EPR). A former substitute for Véran and MP for the constituency in 2020 during her time at the Ministry of Health, Galliard-Minier received praise from the former minister for her efficiency and her ability to build relationships with local elected officials and associations. She is thus joining the race for the constituency, where she will face Lyes Louffok, candidate for La France insoumise (LFI) and activist for the rights of children in care, who also enjoys the support of environmentalists.
Camille Galliard-Minier will take over from Macron in the electoral battle of Isère, with the prospect of ensuring continuity for Ensemble pour la République in the constituency. The election could well play a determining role in the political balance of the region and beyond.
