MTV Europe Music Awards: Women in force!
The 2024 edition of MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), which takes place in Manchester this Sunday 10 November, is resolutely marked by a predominance of women.
This year, Ten of the eleven most nominated artists are women, highlighting strong female representation in pop music and a variety of genres. Leading nominees include artists such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, like Cat, and Miley Cyrus, who marked the year with their albums and performances, are featured in several categories, ranging from “Best Artist” to “Best Music Video”.
Here are some categories and the artists in competition:
• Best song : Ariana Grande (“we can't be friends”), Benson Boone (“Beautiful Things”), Beyoncé (“TEXAS HOLD 'EM”), Billie Eilish (“BIRDS OF A FEATHER”), Chappell Roan (“Good Luck”) , Babe!”), and Sabrina Carpenter (“Espresso”).
• Best music video : Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, LISA ft. Rosalía, and Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone.
• Best artist : Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, RAYE, Sabrina Carpenter, and Taylor Swift.
• Better collaboration : Charli XCX & Billie Eilish, Future & Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, LISA ft. Rosalía, Peso Pluma & Anitta, Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone.
• Best New Artist : Ayra Starr, Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, THE SSERAFIM, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party, and Tyla.
In addition to these main categories, other genres such as rock, hip-hop, K-pop, alternative and afrobeats are also represented, with artists like Coldplay, Central Cee, Jimin, Fontaines DC, and Rema among the nominees.
