Death threats against Arcom officials: an open investigation

Officials at the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) are in shock after receiving explicit death threats in an anonymous letter. According to information obtained by RMC, this letter, received on July 31, 2024, begins with “We are going to kill you all” and contains insults and threats targeting not only Arcom officials, but also their families.

The letter, signed by a group calling itself “Les Gilets Noirs”, denounces a supposed “Stalinist regime” in France. Although the letter does not explicitly mention it, the threats seem linked to Arcom's recent decision not to renew the TNT frequency of the C8 channel, an announcement made a week before receipt of the letter.

Immediately after receiving this letter, Arcom filed a complaint. The Paris prosecutor's office has confirmed the opening of an investigation into "death threats". The Brigade for the Repression of Delinquency Against the Person (BRDP) of the Paris judicial police was responsible for the investigations.

An Arcom spokesperson told RMC: “We lodged a complaint as we systematically do when we receive threatening letters of this type. »

This situation occurs in an already tense context for C8. The channel, which will lose its TNT frequency in 2025, has sparked varied reactions among the public. Some fans of the show “Touche Pas à Mon Poste” expressed their immense disappointment, while others criticized this decision as a lack of pluralism in the French audiovisual landscape.
