"President for life" Didier Roustan has died at the age of 66, following an illness
Didier Roustan has passed away. At the age of 66. Much too early, of course. As a result of a serious illness that was detected late in the day, in recent months. The journalist had left the airwaves of La Chaîne L'Equipe to seek treatment since the end of June.
Unique. Didier Roustan had no equal. A cheekiness, little words, an immeasurable pleasure in seeing the artists of the round ball evolve. Having passed through TF1 (Téléfoot), Antenne 2 and Canal+, his television path finally led him to become "president for life" of L'Equipe du Soir, on The Team Channel.
Beautiful play, beautiful gesture, it was football that he loved above all else. Being able to talk about it freely on air until the last weeks of his life was a privilege that he knew how to appreciate at its true value.
He didn't just commentate on Euro 1992 (with Michel Hidalgo) or the 1994 World Cup (with Eric Cantona), he played, too. At 16, he trained with the professionals of AS Cannes, his city.
A big fan of Diego Armando Maradona, Didier Roustan has known generations of great footballers: from Platini to Zidane, from Maradona to Messi. With him, fun football is elevated to the rank of art.
A media artist died on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. No doubt he must already be regaling his new partners up there with anecdotes.
