The series “Emily in Paris” relocated to Rome? Emmanuel Macron categorically refuses

In interview published this Wednesday in the American magazine Variety, Emmanuel Macron expressed his attachment to the hit series Emily in Paris, in which First Lady Brigitte Macron recently made an appearance. The president stressed the importance of the series for the image of France, opposing a possible relocation of its filming to Rome.

A national pride

Emmanuel Macron was delighted with his wife's participation in an episode of the second part of season 4, broadcast in September. "I was super proud, and she was very happy to do it. It's only a few minutes, but I think it was a great moment for her," he said. The head of state also praised the international success of Emily in Paris, noting its role in the country's tourist appeal. According to him, the series contributes to a positive image of France: "It's an excellent initiative for my business."

A study conducted by Ifop in February 2023 reveals that 86% of Americans having watched Emily in Paris have a favorable image of Paris, compared to only 67% of those who have not followed the series. Since its launch in October 2020, filming locations in Paris have become popular tourist attractions, despite criticism regarding the idealized and sometimes stereotypical vision of the city and French culture.

A series in the image of France

The First Lady had been mentioned in the series before, and her support on social media had significantly increased the number of subscribersEmily in ParisIn April 2024, Brigitte Macron received the lead actress, Lily Collins, as well as Darren Star, the creator of the series, at the Élysée.

As the Francophonie Summit approaches, Emmanuel Macron does not hesitate to affirm that Emily in Paris should not be relocated to Rome: "In Rome, it doesn't make sense." With this statement, the president clearly shows his desire to preserve the series as a showcase of French culture, thus defending its role in promoting France abroad.
