Kate Middleton returns to duty after chemotherapy
After a long absence, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has officially resumed her public engagements, marking the end of a delicate personal ordeal. The wife of Prince William, heir to the British throne, revealed last March that she had cancer, without specifying the nature of it, and recently announced the end of her chemotherapy treatment.
On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Kate made her first public appearance since finishing chemotherapy, attending a meeting on early childhood at Windsor Castle. The meeting marks her return to work, after a prolonged absence since being hospitalized in January for abdominal surgery.
Having disappeared from the media after Christmas 2023, the 42-year-old princess surprised the public in March 2024 by revealing her cancer diagnosis. However, she had been discreet about the details of her illness. Her reappearance in June, at King Charles's birthday parade, was one of her few public engagements during the year, followed by her notable appearance at the Wimbledon final in July.
On September 9, Kate posted a video expressing her joy at having completed her chemotherapy sessions, while sharing her eagerness to return to her activities. However, her schedule remains light for the moment, with the princess focusing on a gradual resumption of her official engagements.
With this discreet but symbolic reinstatement, Kate Middleton is preparing to fully resume her public role in the coming months, after having gone through this health ordeal with courage and discretion.
