Kamala Harris intensifies attacks on Donald Trump on immigration

Kamala Harris, buoyed by the enthusiasm of her recent meetings, continues her campaign this Saturday in Nevada, after having severely criticized Donald Trump on one of her favorite subjects, immigration. Meanwhile, the former president promises to “unmask” her during the next televised debate.

Speaking to a crowd of 15 in Glendale, Arizona, a key state bordering Mexico, Harris accused Trump of not wanting to solve the migration crisis. “Donald Trump doesn't want to solve this problem, let's be clear,” Harris said, recalling that Biden trailed Trump by just 000 votes in Arizona in the 10 election.

Under the Biden administration, the United States saw a massive influx of migrants, followed by drastic restrictions in June. Trump sharply attacked Harris over this record, but she denounced what she called Trump's hypocrisy, recalling that he had asked Republican lawmakers to block an immigration bill last spring. “He talks a lot about border security, but he doesn’t take action,” she stressed.

Harris stressed the need for comprehensive immigration reform, including strict border security measures and an earned path to citizenship.

Trump's response and the rise of Harris

Alongside her new running mate Tim Walz, Harris is drawing large crowds in key states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan, with the election just months away. Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race has given Democrats hope of winning Arizona and Nevada, two states that were recently reclassified from "leaning Republican" to "uncertain" by the Cook Political Report, an independent site .

Trump downplayed Harris' rise, saying at a rally in Montana that he saw her as an easier opponent to beat than Biden. “I’d rather be against her,” he said, calling Harris “crazy Kamala” and saying her mandate would lead to “50 million illegal aliens” arriving in the country over the next four years.

Trump has not yet announced any major meetings for the coming week, preferring to concentrate his efforts on taking control of the Senate, where Republicans only need one additional seat to obtain a majority. His visit to Montana was to support Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy.

Anticipation of the debate and dynamics of the campaign

As the Democratic National Convention approaches, Trump has indicated he will wait until after the event, where Harris will be the center of attention, before launching major counterattacks. Harris has already closed the polling gap that existed between Biden and Trump, causing concern within the Republican camp.

Trump's campaign suffered a slight setback this week when he mistakenly told an anecdote involving Harris' former boyfriend, Willie Brown, confusing him with ex-California Governor Jerry Brown.

The first televised debate between Harris and Trump is scheduled for September 10 on ABC. Trump expressed confidence, saying he would regain the advantage in this debate, referencing his past performance against Biden.

Despite withdrawing from the race due to health concerns, 81-year-old Joe Biden continues to actively support Harris' campaign. The duo will make their first joint appearance since Biden's withdrawal announcement next Thursday in Maryland, where they will address "progress in reducing costs for the American people," a crucial issue as inflation remains a challenge for Harris.
