Paris Olympics: Police prefect Laurent Nuñez features in a video
The Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories has shared a video entitled “Opening Ceremony: In the Games of the Police Prefect” which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This video highlights the work and organization deployed to ensure the security and smooth running of this historic event.
Greetings and recognition
The video begins by showing the police chief greeting the people he meets in the streets of Paris, whether they are supporters or members of the police, including the foreign forces present for the occasion. “Thank you for protecting us,” a passerby even told him. We then see Laurent Nuñez holding a series of meetings focused on security, on the problem of access to Olympic infrastructures, passes and QR codes, traffic, etc.
Supervision and control
The video follows the prefect as he joins a security commission, inspects the Olympic infrastructure to ensure everything is in order, and receives various security reports which he checks and signs. Laurent Nuñez also explains that he can supervise everything from a command room offering an overview and real-time control over Olympic events thanks to the 80 cameras installed throughout Paris.
A positive and confident approach
Throughout the video, the Police Commissioner remains very positive about the unfolding of events. He expresses his satisfaction with the way things are going. This reassuring and confident attitude contrasts with the reception of his management of the Games, which has been widely criticized.
