In a tense political context, Olivier Marleix, LR MP, reacted strongly to the statements of Gérald Darmanin, resigning Minister of the Interior, who insinuated that taxes could increase with the new government of Michel Barnier. On France 2, Marleix denounced these assertions as being a "rumor" launched by Darmanin to be able to echo it. "Let's be serious, it is a rumor that was launched by Mr. Darmanin to allow Mr. Darmanin to comment on it," he declared.

Despite reports to the contrary, Marleix stressed that Matignon had categorically denied these speculations. The MP also raised the idea that Barnier would not hesitate to consider "greater tax justice", while stating that discussions around a possible tax increase were unfounded.

The situation was exacerbated by the postponement of a meeting between Barnier and the main leaders of the Republicans, which was initially scheduled for September 18. Olivier Marleix acknowledged palpable tensions, saying that some elected officials in the presidential camp wanted clarification on Barnier's political line. "I am not privy to the secrets of the Gods. There have been other meetings cancelled with the majority. People want to weigh a little on the constitution of the new government," he explained.

Marleix also expressed confidence in Michel Barnier, whom he sees as a leader seeking to transcend partisan divides. "I urge him not to be a hostage to party leaders. Our country is in a serious situation, on the brink of a regime crisis," he warned, stressing the importance of a government that reflects the will of the voters.

This delicate political dynamic raises the question of the future of the Barnier government and of relations between the Republicans and the presidential camp, while the debate on taxation continues to agitate the political scene.
