François Hollande candidate with the new popular front

15 June 2024 / Interviews

It's official, François Hollande is a candidate for the legislative elections. The former President of the Republic wishes to return to the benches of the Assembly with the seat of the 1st constituency of Corrèze, his original stronghold, for which he was already a deputy from 1997 to 2007.

The former First Secretary of the Socialist Party spoke on Gilles Bouleau's 20 p.m. news this Thursday, June 13. He was very critical of the dissolution of the National Assembly and supported the union of the left, despite internal differences, notably on Europe, NATO and Hamas. This big name of socialism therefore rallies with the most radical fringes such as the PCF, the NPA or even Lutte Ouvrière, to hope to prevent the “extreme right” from coming to power.

The campaign may not be so obvious for the former President of the Republic. Jordan Bardella's list collected 31,64% of the votes in his constituency, as much as the lists of Valérie Hayer, Raphaël Glucksmann and Manon Aubry combined.

Strong local participation could, however, help Corrézien to recover its historic seat.

We will only have the definitive answer on June 30 or July 7 if he manages to advance to the second round.
