EXCLUDED AUDIO – Darmanin candidate in 2027

March 25, 2024 / Radouan Kourak

Invited by Adile Farquane on Beur FM, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, for the first time took on the role of “almost candidate” in the 2027 presidential election.

According to him, it is “the spirit of defeat and the absence of political vision” which are responsible for Marine Le Pen’s progress. The minister expressed his wish to take part in the fight against the RN. “I have ideas to share, I am here to play politics, not just to manage my ministry,” he clarified.

Questioned by Adile Farquane about his future and his ambitions, Gérald Darmanin was very talkative: “My future is not of much interest. If people like me, great. If they don’t like me, they’ll vote for someone else.”

For me, it doesn't have much interest, if people like me, so much the better. If they don't like me, they'll vote for someone else. In itself, this is not dramatic. But I tell them: Take an interest in the political life of your country as a simple citizen. You know politics, if you don't take care of it, it's who takes care of you.

The tenant of Place Beauvau is moving a little further towards a candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. Until now, he had never hidden his ambitions, but had always been evasive on the issue. This morning on Beur FM, he opened the way for a candidacy which has not yet given its name.

In the list of majority contenders who aspire to succeed Emmanuel Macron, he now joins Édouard Philippe, Gabriel Attal and Bruno Le Maire.
