European elections: Diplomat Xavier Direncourt declines an offer from the RN

February 20, 2024 / Radouan Kourak

Engaged in the race for the European elections, the parties are courting personalities to construct their lists. A few days after the recruitment of Fabrice Leggeri, former director of Frontex, the National Rally (RN) continues its transfer window. In search of media experts in very specific fields, it is on Xavier Driencourt that the party has set its sights.

Former French ambassador, notably to Algeria, Driencourt regularly speaks in the media on current international issues, he is at the origin of the outcry against the 1968 Franco-Algerian agreement on immigration. From his observation, the Republicans will attempt unsuccessfully in the National Assembly in December 2023 to repeal the said agreement. The former diplomat is today a member of the strategic committee of the very right-wing media Livre Noir.

Several executives of the National Rally regret this failed poaching attempt, but assure that over the course of the campaign other media personalities will get involved alongside the Lepéniste party.
