ECONOMY – PSG exceeds 3 billion euros in tax contributions since its acquisition by Qatar
While PSG is often criticized by its detractors for unbalancing the French football championship and for the millions it spends, a report published yesterday reveals its impact on the local economy in Île-de-France and highlights the club's enormous contributions to public finances...
Paris Saint-Germain and the Center for Sports Law and Economics (CDES) presented yesterday morning the results of the study " Economic impact and social utility of Paris Saint-Germain » in Île-de-France for the 2023/2024 season. Entitled “A Club at the service of its territory”, this study highlights the strength of Paris Saint-Germain’s local roots.
€243 million of value created: PSG, a leading economic player in the Paris region’s economic fabric
Paris Saint-Germain generated a total economic impact of €243 million for the 2023/2024 season. In 5 years, Paris Saint-Germain's contribution to the wealth created in Île-de-France has increased by 25% (€182,2 million during the 2018-2019 season, which was the subject of the previous CDES report).
The organization of sporting events is, unsurprisingly, the main value-creating activity for Paris Saint-Germain, with €74,6 million.
Paris Saint-Germain is also a major employer, employing 2 full-time equivalents. This figure breaks down as follows: 379 direct jobs, 746 indirect jobs and 291 induced jobs.
The Île-de-France region thus benefits from the dimension taken by PSG on a European scale: with revenues of €805 million in 2023-2024, PSG is 3e club generating the most revenue in Europe, and its average annual growth of 17,9% since 2010-2011 places it at the top of the Top 20 European clubs.
€371 million: a social and fiscal contribution comparable to that of the largest French companies
For the 2023/2024 season, Paris Saint-Germain's total contribution to public finances amounted to more than 371M €, an increase of 44% compared to the 2018-2019 season, and the equivalent of 7,4% of the Region's budget.
Since 2011, the contributions of the Club and its stakeholders to public finances have approached 3 billion euros.
These social and tax contributions are in line with the average of those of CAC40 and SBF120 companies and illustrate the extent of PSG's support for public authorities, particularly local authorities.
