Ceasefire in Ukraine: Putin's new conditions

14 June 2024 / Interviews

What if there was peace? Engaged in a frontal war since the start of 2022, Ukraine and Russia are considering a ceasefire. This is what Vladimir Putin suggests.

“As soon as kyiv begins the effective withdrawal of troops from the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, and it notifies the abandonment of its plan to join theNato, we will immediately, this very minute, give the order to cease fire and begin negotiations ". Vladimir Putin says he is a man of his words. This is what he promised to the executives of the Russian Foreign Ministry this Friday.

The one who has divided the world for more than two years has set clear conditions for a return to peace. The withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the four regions it claims and kyiv's official refusal to join NATO. No need for the peace summit organized in Switzerland on June 15 and 16 to foresee a ceasefire... Vladimir Putin having been excluded from this world meeting.

« In this regard, I want to emphasize that without the participation of Russia and an honest and responsible dialogue with us, it is impossible to achieve a peaceful solution in Ukraine and the security of Europe in general », Warned the ex-KGB member.

Not sure that these conditions suit Ukraine, keen to maintain its pre-2022 borders. Especially since Vladimir Putin claims certain territories which are currently not yet completely under Russian control.
